I Think He's Got It

After almost a month of trying to figure this eating business out he finally is getting it! After trying rice and oatmeal cereal and having him refuse it time and time again I started making him fruits and veggies to try. First I have to say I never thought I'd be the type to make my own baby food but I love it surprisingly. I guess it makes me feel connected to him like breast feeding if I still make it. I know it's weird. Anyways he LOVES avocado and banana mixed together and eats it right up. I am so glad he is eating real food. I was scared I would have to go to school at lunch to breastfeed him because of his eating habits.

5 Months

Yep he is 5 months old already. Time has flown by so fast. Here is what 5 months of life has brought lately. Brayden is obsessed with his feet. When ever there is a diaper change he goes straight to grab his toes and play with them. Now because he loves them so much I leave them out for a while after I change him so he can play. The one problem is that he cries when I put them away. He also loves to roll around especially when his diaper is off. I got pictures of this too but in order to save him from years of therapy I won't post naked pictures on the blog.

He also is now grabbing on to everything he can. He still doesn't have the best grip but if anything is left near by you bet he is going for it and that it is headed straight for his mouth. We rarely get a chance to see him without his hands in his mouth gnawing away. I am sure he is teething and I wish that little tooth could break through. It would make life around here a lot happier if that would happen.

Since we have been cooped up in the house this winter Brayden and I have taken to dancing to keep ourselves entertained. He loves when we dance with him. Please ignore my wonderful look, most days I am lucky to get in a shower after Ben gets home but beauty is not a top priority around her lately. Enjoy!!!

Just some cute humor

How to Decide Who to Marry: By Kids
By: Salma Rumman

Kids contemplate marriage.

How would you make your marriage work?
Tell your wife that she looks pretty, even if she looks like a truck.
Ricky, age 10

How can a stranger tell if two people are married?
You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids.
Derrick, age 8

What do you think your mom and dad have in common?
Both don’t want any more kids.
Lori, age 8

What do most people do on a date?
Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough.
Lynnette, age 8 (isn’t she a treasure?)

On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date.
Martin, age 10

What would you do on a first date that was turning sour?
I’d run home and play dead. The next day I would call all the newspapers and make sure they wrote about me in all the dead columns.
Craig, age 9

When is it okay to kiss someone?
When they’re rich.
Pam, age 7

The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn’t want to mess with that.
Curt, age 7

The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It’s the right thing to do.
Howard, age 8

What is the right age to get married?
Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then.
Camille, age 10

No age is good to get married at. You got to be a fool to get married.
Freddie, age 6 (very wise for his age)

Is it better to be single or married?
I don’t know which is better, but I’ll tell you one thing. I’m never going to kiss my wife. I don’t want to be all grossed out.
Theodore, age 8

It’s better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone to clean up after them.
Anita, age 9 (bless you child)

How do you decide whom to marry?
You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming.
Alan, age 10

No person really decides before they grow up who they’re going to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you’re stuck with.
Kristen, age 10

I don't think so

With the Doctors go ahead Brayden has moved on to "real" food. I gave him his first taste of rice cereal....

video

As you can see he was not thrilled with this.

So far I have been giving it to him in the morning and at night but he hates it. He won't open his mouth and then spits it back out. We have tried it with breastmilk and formula but neither one took. I have also tried putting it in a bottle but that was a no go either. I am thinking of trying it with juice.

Any tips to get him to eat?

4 month Stats

STATS
13 pounds 7 ounces (12%)
26 inches (76%)
I am guessing the length is not from the Mortensen genes!

Happy Birthday to Me

My 27th birthday was on the tenth and I got just what I wanted a beautiful healthy baby to spend it with. Last year this time I got to share with family that I was pregnant and this year I have Brayden here. I feel like I am so blessed already that there was nothing more I needed for my birthday this year so I asked for baby diapers instead. Ask and ye shall receive.

Swimming

On New Years we went out to Givens Hot Springs with family. I knew Brayden would love swimming for the first time because he adores bath time. Usually he splashes and plays during bath time but in the pool he just sat quietly, relaxing almost, for close to two hours. He was so content in the warm water it was awesome. His cousins also had fun and were a lot more active in the water. Colter who is 3 loved going all over the pool with floaties and help. Ally who is 18 months had fun running in the kiddie pool. I thought for sure after the time in the water Brayden would be exhausted and ready for a serious nap but boy was I wrong. He seemed to pull energy from the water. Really I suspect it was all the people and activity there that kept him going but he just did not want to nap. We decided we must take him back soon though because he was such a good baby there. I am glad his first swimming experience went so well.

Resolutions

A new year means new goals for the Johnson clan...

Ben's
"I don't know. If I want to do something I'll just do it."
Kristen's
To get rid of the extra baby weight and try to be less uptight and anxious.
Brayden's
To eat solid foods, crawl, walk, talk, get teeth, sleep through the night, and double in size.
